Many drug manufacturers charge about the same for different dosages of prescription medication. A 30 milligram dose, for example, may be priced almost the same as a 60 milligram pill. Buy the 60 milligram pill and cut it in half, and you've just cut the cost of your medication by 50%! Ask your pharmacist about the cost of various dosages of your prescription.
Some pills can't be cut in half safely, including timed release pills and caplets. Check with your doctor before trying this with any prescription medication.
This technique works best with relatively flat pills scored in the middle, and usually you can only cut them in half, not in thirds or quarters. Don't try this with a knife....you'll end up with cut fingers, incorrect dosages or half the pill skidding onto the floor. Check for pill cutters in your drug store. They range in price from $5 for a simple cutter to $20 up for more precise cutters.
